Powerful

Tonight while we were at Wal-Mart for that black Friday shopping you just have to do, Lilla started playing with an etch a sketch. She thought it was the neatest thing she’d ever seen and was insisting that she needed it, and seriously right now is the best time to get it.

I told her, “Well, Christmas is coming up, maybe you could ask Santa.”

She first said, “He’s pretty far away. I don’t think he’s going to come here.” (And by here, she meant she didn’t think he would shop at Wal-Mart, which I found funny in itself.)

She then started saying something about being powerful and so I asked her, “What do you mean? Do you think Santa is powerful?” I had been trying to figure out what she meant as I thought she’d been saying he was powerful to get all the gifts to all the kids.

She looked at me, gave a knowing giggle and said, “Noooooo, God is powerful.”

And she humbles me once again.

  1. That's a wonderful story! It's hard for me right now with the whole Santa thing because I've never played up Santa to Samuel but because of the books that we have and the Christmas movies that he watches he believes in Santa and tells me that he has visited Santa at the North Pole and since he is one of those kids that has imaginary friends, I hate to crush his spirit..I've always "fed" his imagination as I was the same way as a child and I've always loved the fact that I could put myself into a place of play and feel transformed and transported to another reality. As I grew older of course maturity kicked in, but I don't want to take that spirit away from him that I loved so much as a child…Hmmm…Lots to think about… Thanks for letting me "vent" on your blog 🙂

  2. Amy, this just melts my heart! I absolutely love coming here and hearing the little things Lilla says and seeing her heart grow to love Christ like she has…such a special sweet precious child and i am just sure her little sister is going to be the exact same way! They have a wonderful Mommy to set such good examples for them!!! Too bad Noah and Lilla can't play together…they sure would have some interesting conversations I believe :)xoxo
